What is isobutyraldehyde?
Isobutyraldehyde, also known as 2-methylpropanal, is an organic compound, chemical formula C8O,
colorless transparent liquid, slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, benzene,
chloroform, carbon disulfide, acetone, toluene, mainly used in the manufacture of rubber
vulcanization accelerator, antioxidant, isobutyric acid and so on.
How is isobutyraldehyde stored and distributed?
1. Iron buckets or glass bottles are packed with wooden cases or calcium-plastic boxes to reinforce
the inner liner. Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. The package should be sealed and should not
be stored for a long time to prevent deterioration. Keep away from fire and heat sources, and store
and transport in isolation from oxidants.
2. Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat. The storage temperature
should not exceed 29℃. The package should be sealed and not in contact with air. It should be stored
separately from oxidants, reducing agents, alkalis, etc., and should not be mixed. Do not store in
large quantities or for a long time. Explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities are
adopted. Do not use mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to spark. The storage area should
be equipped with leak emergency treatment equipment and suitable containment materials.
What is isobutyraldehyde used for?
· Used for rubber vulcanization accelerator and antioxidant, isobutyric acid, etc
· The permissible use of edible spices is specified in GB 2760A 1996. It is mainly used to prepare
caramel, banana and various fruit flavors.
· Isobutyraldehyde is not as widely used as n-butyraldehyde. Isobutanol is produced by hydrogenation
in industry. Isobutanol can be used as a substitute for n-butanol in some respects.
Hydroxytrimethylacetaldehyde is formed by addition reaction of isobutyraldehyde and
formaldehyde, and then hydrogenated to produce neopentyl glycol, which is used as raw material of
varnish, resin, fiber and lubricant. The fertilizer prepared by the reaction of isobutyraldehyde
with urea can release nitrogen slowly. In addition, it is also used as an intermediate for amino
acids, vitamins and other drugs. The carbonyl synthesis method can obtain both n-butyraldehyde and
isobutyraldehyde in proportion, and the consumption balance is still an oversupply of
isobutyraldehyde, and an extremely large amount of isobutyraldehyde is used as fuel.
· Synthetic pantothenic acid, valine, leucine, cellulose ester, flavor, plasticizer, resin and
gasoline additive. Also used in the manufacture of vulcanization accelerator and antioxidant,
isobutyric acid, etc.
